Living room in the tower (ducal room)
The fourth tier tells about the life of the Grand Duke, you can see household items, among which a chess figure – a rook stands out, it refers to single finds made of bone.
The main objective of the 4th tier is to recreate the interior of the Medieval era. The Castle performed a defensive function. The thickness of its walls is about two meters. Naturally, it was difficult to heat such walls. It is difficult to say what the heating system in the southwestern tower was like, since only fragments of the foundation have remained from the original tower. Either braziers or a fireplace could be used here. The humidity in the rooms was constantly high.
It was very difficult to maintain a comfortable air temperature for living. For the purpose of insulation, there were used animal skins on the floor and walls, a canopy over the bed. The Duke stayed at the Castle for a short time. The decoration of his rooms was not impressive in its richness. There was no pretentiousness, only the most necessary. A table, benches, shelves with dishes, a bed, a chest – that's all the furniture.
