The second tier tells about the Grand Duchy of Lithuania itself, here you can see objects found during excavations, as well as models of castles-castells in Krevo and Medininkai.
Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Rus' and Samogitia was a European state that existed from the 1240s until 1795.
In the first stages of the new state's existence, its territory was significantly expanded by the Baltic lands, a significant part of the former Kievan Rus and other Slavic lands, occupying modern Belarus, Latvia and Lithuania, as well as parts of modern Ukraine, Poland, Estonia, Moldova and Russia.
The formation of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was a long process. Dynastic marriages and agreements between separate princedoms led to the formation of a federal union.
The state was formed in the struggle with the Livonian and Teutonic Orders, the Galicia-Volyn principality.
Therefore, in the first half of the XIV century a whole defense system arose, consisting of powerful castles in Lida, Krevo, Grodno, Novogrudok, Medniki, Vilnius and Trakai.
The first Grand Duke Mindovg was crowned with the royal crown in Novogrudok in 1253.
