The marriage of Jagiello and Sophia of Halshany (Sofja Halšanskaja) took place in December 1421 in Novogrudok. On the day of the wedding, Jagiello's age exceeded 71 years, Sofia was 17. After the wedding, the "new wedded" left for Lida, where the celebrations took place. Many guests gathered in Lida, including Anthony Zeno, the nuncio of Pope Martin V, the Czech Embassy, and the Lithuanian boyardom.
The marriage was successful. Sophia gave birth to three sons (the middle one died in infancy) and became the founder of the Jagiellonian dynasty, which ruled the united Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth until 1572, Hungary and the Czech Republic until 1529.
