Showcase with metal products
All these metal objects were found during excavations in the territory of Lida Castle.
Horseshoes. Horseshoes became widespread in the Middle Ages, at the same time they had evolved into their familiar form. In knightly times, horseshoes also had a symbolic meaning – they demonstrated the virtues of horse and rider. The horseshoes allowed the animals to travel long distances at a higher speed over any terrain, including rocky ones, without damage, as well as to wage war at any time of the year.
Heelplates from knight's boots. It is possible that the heel on boots as its integral part appeared at the turn of the XVI- XVII centuries. Heelplates for boots were used to increase the service life of shoes. Heelplates or braces were attached to the heels. One of the ways was to mount on spikes.
Spurs. Spurs are an essential attribute of military equipment and are the privilege of a knight. Finds of wheel spurs dating back to the XIV–XV centuries, they had a wheel holder up to 10 cm.
The head of a crossbow bolt and a crossbow arrow. All crossbow heads are armor-piercing, made quite rude. The weight and size of crossbow bolt heads are significantly above the crossbow arrowheads. The arrowhead weighs an average of 9 grams. Whereas the weight of the crossbow bolt head can range from 18 to 50 grams on average, sometimes even more than a hundred. A crossbow is superior to a bow in power and range, but inferior in rate of fire.
